BuddyPress Community Portal for Retro Gaming — Back2OldGames
A big archive and a live community, run by one person

The games that defined an era, brought back to life
An English-language platform dedicated to preserving classic video games (1984–2010) from twelve systems, from the Amiga and ZX Spectrum to the Dreamcast and Nintendo 64. It combines a catalog you can browse by platform and genre with a full social layer: members, groups, badges, challenges, forums and a news blog.

The project needed to bring together a large downloadable archive and a lively social community, all on one website and easy to manage.
We built the site on WordPress with a BuddyPress social layer, a catalog by platform and genre, WooCommerce, a news blog and a donations system to keep the project running.

What happened to Back2OldGames after launch
A retro portal with modern community mechanics: game pages with editorial reviews, and a system of badges, quests, ranks and credits that turns downloading abandonware into a game of its own. Members come back for the new releases and stay for the forums.
“The site nails it: huge catalog, proper game pages with real reviews, and the gamification keeps our members hooked. It runs smooth as an emulator on a good day. Couldn't ask for more.”
The tech behind Back2OldGames
